Hey everyone, I’m Chuchu from Malaysia. Today marks a pretty epic moment in the sun’s journey northward—it’s the Summer Solstice!
That means it’s the longest day and the shortest night of the year for those of us living in the Northern Hemisphere. Up in Mohe, Heilongjiang, people are enjoying 17 hours of non-stop sunshine;Along the Tropic of Cancer, places like Shantou and Mengzi stage a no-shadow magic trick at noon—objects seem to disappear.
These amazing phenomena? Totally exclusive to the Summer Solstice. Starting tomorrow, the sun begins its slow trek southward again, and our daylight shrinks by about two and a half minutes a day. Just like the old Chinese saying goes: “After eating Summer Solstice noodles, each day gets a little shorter.”
Back in ancient times, people took this day pretty seriously. The emperor would perform rituals at the Temple of Earth to honor the sun, and regular folks paid respect to their ancestors. The Summer Solstice was like a ruler for time—on one end, a deep respect for nature and the universe; on the other, a quiet reverence for daily life, meals, and the changing seasons.
So, friends, Summer Solstice is here. May we all chase the light with hopeful hearts and keep growing toward the sun.
