BYD took delivery of its sixth roll-on/roll-off vehicle carrier on June 24 as the Chinese NEV maker expands its shipping capacity to support rising global exports.

The vessel, BYD CHANGSHA, was officially handed over in a ceremony held in Haimen, in Jiangsu province. It follows the delivery of the fifth vessel, BYD XI'AN, on June 21.

Both ships are part of BYD's growing self-owned fleet aimed at securing outbound logistics as demand for its vehicles increases overseas.

The carrier is named after the central Chinese city of Changsha for its industrial base and pioneering spirit, said BYD. The new ship is equipped with 9,200 standard vehicle spaces and runs on dual-fuel LNG technology designed to reduce emissions.

According to official data, China exported 2.83 million vehicles in the first five months of 2025, up 16 percent year-on-year. In May alone, exports rose 22 percent to 682,000 units.

BYD's overseas sales have also surged, reaching 88,640 units in May, up 133.6 percent compared to a year earlier.

As China's auto exports continue to expand, demand for specialized car carriers is also rising.

BYD said a self-owned fleet of vehicle carriers allows the company to secure critical shipping capacity and provides a strong, reliable supply chain foundation for its global expansion strategy.

The BYD XI'AN, delivered on June 21, is now en route to Europe with approximately 7,000 vehicles destined for markets including the UK, Italy, Spain, and Belgium.

The addition of BYD CHANGSHA is expected to further enhance BYD's ability to manage outbound shipments and support the global rollout of its EV lineup, said the company.
