Palm weaving originated in Sichuan, Hunan and other places in China, and has been used since ancient times to make straw raincoat, slippers, baskets and other daily necessities, which later developed diverse handicrafts to meet people's aesthetic needs. 棕編起源于我國四川、湖南等地，自古便用來制作蓑衣、拖鞋、提籃等生活用品，后來發(fā)展出棕編工藝品，用于滿足人們的審美需求。早在春秋時期，《詩經(jīng)》中已有牧羊人身著棕編蓑衣的記載，距今已有1700余年歷史。在湖南長沙，一片普通的棕櫚葉，經(jīng)匠人巧手，能化作蝴蝶、鳳凰，甚至微縮版岳麓山。新鮮棕葉經(jīng)過煮沸、曬干處理變得柔韌。通過撕、拉、繞、編等傳統(tǒng)技法，將棕絲層層疊壓、緊密編織。
